20 Games That Defined the Commodore 64

Discussion

  • - What do you think about this? see, and tell us now.
  • - one word "WIZBALL"
  • - Why are there ports on this list? I can see Defender of the Crown, because the C64 version was the best version, but Ghosts N Goblins?
  • - Was I the only kid that played M.U.L.E. back in the day?
  • - Giana Sisters,Kickstart 2 ,Batman the movie.
  • - Where is Mission Impossible? Or was it the other way around?
  • - While I disagree with a couple of things (for instance impossible mission absent from the list, as mentioned by some other viewer) this is probably the first list that actually mentions the game that somehow defined the system rather than personal preferences.
  • - I forgot about barbarian. That was a good game.
  • - That Barbarian game is not by Psygnosis. It's by Palace Software. The Psygnosis game was very different: a run-around adventure with icon controls.
  • - Loved Barbarian. We would watch Conan then pretend we were Arnold it the pit! So cool!
  • - Came down with pneumonia when Elite came out. I must have played a couple hundred hours but never got Elite Status :(Great game.
  • - IMO all the Epyx Sports Games were awesome! Anyone remember Rocket Ranger?how about Mail Order Monsters? Alter Ego? Kickstart? or Tapper?I have spent many hours on Racing Destruction Set, Spy vs Spy, Boulderdash, Impossible Mission, Beachhead 2, to name a few.. and that was when I wasn't busy with my awesome Aprotek 1200 BPS modem.
  • - A good list, but you're missing a lot of great titles like the Questron games, Legacy of the Ancients, Hardball!, 4th and Inches, all of the Dungeons and Dragons Goldbox games, etc...
  • - I never liked Last Ninja, but it shows up in most people's lists of top Commodore 64 games. For me it's a game that takes full advantage of the system's capabilities, it brings something new to action games, but it isn't a typical C64 game. It feels like it belongs to a different system.
  • - Hardball?
  • - You forgot Raid over Moscow!
  • - Space Taxi, Impossible Mission, Ghostbusters? :)
  • - this looks shit compared to the 360
  • - I always thought EA owned this computer. Then again they often released games for multiple computers such as both C64, Apple and Atari, so does that not count perhaps? Epyx was great too - I thought the best "Games" games were Summer Games I/II and Winter Games.
  • - I'd include Paradroid, Elite and the Bard's Tale Series. Also, the C64 will always make me think of the great The Castle of Dr. Creep along with the infamous Castle Wolfenstein and the game Bruce Lee.
  • - where are all the sports games???
  • - Archeon I & II...Gyrus....Jumpman, to many games and if u had a copy program forget it! The good ol days
  • - For me the list suits.. sure there's always a lot missing (you cannot mention all classics of the C64 and Amiga), but nevertheless, a good list of great games!!
  • - Array
  • - agree with comments others have said, adding uridium ,delta, paradroid and the sentinel to the list (glad someone else mention impossible mission)
  • - Both Archon games were awesome (both came before Battle Chess, and you could say that Battle Chess took its formula from the Archon games to a certain point. Commando was also a great game, as were Paradroid, and Delta, The Commodore 64 version of Infiltrator was much better than the crappy NES version, as was the C64 version of Ghostbusters. Other great titles included Impossible Mission, Raid over Moscow, both Beach Head games, and Marble Madness just to name a few.
  • - Beach Head II was an amazing game
  • - Most of the games listed on this are inferior copies of Arcade and or Amiga games. Some like Archon 1 and 2, and Pirates, played better on the C64 due to timing issues. I agree with many other posters.. games like "The Sentry/Sentinel", Boulder Dash (on this list), Pirates, Paradroid, Beach head 1/2, Legacy of the Ancients, Alternate reality the city/Dungeon, Lords of Conquest, etc. But it is all subject to opinion and experience!Sluggo
  • - Grand Prix Circuit, TestDrive2, Ninja (not the last ninja), Bruce Lee, Mafia, Eagles Nest and many many others defined the C64 for me...
  • - Some of the best games i ever played.
  • - “schwelg“
  • - There was an odd game called Zoids. It was nearly impossible to play but the music was awesome. Anyone else remember it.
  • - another visitor, stay a while, staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay foreveeeeeeeeeeeeeer
  • - Katakis is missing
  • - International Karate sure looks a helluva lot like "Way of the Exploding Fist"
  • - Ends of comments.
